![]() ![]() Invocations are a whole new world, I'd say pick up the ones specific for Pact of the Chain and then whatever you feel is in character or most useful. The best way to deal damage with a warlock is often Eldritch Blast, pick it up just in case you end up with no spell slots. ![]() In general, stay away from damaging spells, with few spell slots it's better to focus on control you can still pick some up, but they should have enough impact on the battlefield to justify spending your limited spell slots on. Since your spell slots are somewhat limited, you should try to pick spells that incapacitate enemies (think Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Slow, Banishment, etc). If you're ok with multiclassing, one level of Divine Soul sorcerer can give you some Charisma-based healing spells which you can use to also fill a healer role. Your best option is playing as a support/control character the familiar granted by Pact of the Chain can be used for scouting and to deliver Spare the Dying and other touch spells. The warlock gets most of its power through spell selection, invocations and the pact boon. Invisible familiars, familiars with hands, Voice of the Chain Master, and so on give you an interesting niche that helps to stand out a bit.Īs others have already said, the Undying warlock is severely underpowered compared to other subclasses, but this doesn't mean it's unplayable. If you wanted to specialize in a way that makes you feel more effective, I'd probably spend more time developing your Chainlock abilities. EB is enough to help you stay effective in combat. Eldritch Blast, Agonizing Blast, and so on. But I wouldn't let that stop you.īest advice here would be to follow general warlock advice that applies to any subclass. Picking these, you almost have to make peace with the fact that you're not going to be highly optimized. I still had a ton of fun with the character, however. Also thought to be the weakest of the available options. It is fairly weak, however - to the point of needing an outright replacement. And, despite the weaker power level, kind of like it better than the replacement Undead warlock for a variety of reasons.
